Juventus have taken more steps toward signing Riccardo Calafiori, who has long been their number one target to shore up the rearguard. They will move on from Alex Sandro and have yet to come to terms with Daniele Rugani, who has an expiring contract.

According to SportMediaset, the Bianconeri zeroed in on the Bologna defender especially for his versatility. He’s a good fit for a three or four-man line and featured as a left-back earlier in his career. He suits any tactic.

Bologna ask for €25M for Calafiori but Juventus could get there thanks to a favorable formula, a loan with an obligation to buy, and a makeweight among their talents chosen by the Rossoblù. His former team, Basel, will receive a sizeable chunk of the fee.

The center-back is keener on going to Turin than on transferring abroad. He was linked to Tottenham in previous weeks. The parties are in advanced talks. The agreement will likely come quickly once both seal their respective seasonal objectives.

Our Take on Juventus and Calafiori

He wouldn’t be cheap but Bologna seem open for business, which is a little concerning for their future prospects. It’d be another hint about the arrival of Thiago Motta, but he’d work well with any gaffer. His best role is arguably the left braccetto in a three-man defense. The Bianconeri don’t seem to be eyeing many defenders and could be set with one addition if Gleison Bremer stays.
